Kathleen’s areas of clinical focus include women’s mental health: working with pregnant and postpartum women on issues such as anxiousness, postpartum blues, depression, transition to parenthood issues, birth related trauma/difficult births, concerns regarding bonding and attachment, fear and anxiety about an upcoming birth and perinatal loss. Kathleen works with couples to address relationship challenges that can arise with couples and families during the childbearing and childrearing years. Kathleen also works with families on improving relationship dynamics in the household, boundary setting and parent education.
Kathleen integrates a variety of therapeutic approaches in her practice. She frequently uses Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Interpersonal Therapy because they are brief, practical, and collaborative. She also incorporates mindfulness-based cognitive therapy, psychodynamic therapy and supportive psychotherapy. Her focus is to work with clients to stabilize their presenting problems, relieve symptoms, assist them in building their strengths and support systems, and to gain a deeper understanding of themselves. She feels it is important to offer support, practical feedback, and tools to help clients achieve their goals.
Kathleen regularly attends workshops and conferences to keep up to date in her field. She also feels that it is important to work collaboratively with other specialists in the mental health and medical field.
